I/O Solutions is a human resources consulting firm and national test publisher located just outside Chicago in suburban Westchester, IL.  I/O Solutions’ products and services can be categorized into three distinct areas:  1) development, marketing and sale of off-the-shelf examinations/assessment tools, 2) development of custom public-sector entry-level and promotional testing/assessment tools, and 3) third-party recruiting, application processing, test administration and secondary screening assistance for municipalities.  Functions one and two are provided under the name I/O Solutions, while function three is provided as a service of I/O Solutions under the name Public Safety Recruitment (PSR).  Our consulting division specializes in the development, validation and implementation of selection systems for clients in the public sector (particularly police, fire and other public safety agencies).   We work with the largest municipalities in the U.S. to develop entry-level written examinations, structured interviews, promotional job-knowledge examinations, SJTs, assessment centers, performance evaluation systems and similar tools.

The Opportunity

I/O Solutions is continually growing and seeking new members of our consulting staff and research and development team.  The current opening is for a project analyst on our consulting team.  This position directly reports to the Vice President of Consulting and take additional direction from four full-time consultants and the President of the firm.  This position provides supports for the Consulting V.P., members of consulting team and Research & Development manager on various aspects of consulting projects and research & development initiatives.  This position requires technical responsibilities and some administrative responsibilities but offers an excellent learning opportunity for a candidate interested in high-stakes employee selection.  We estimate that this position will involve approximately 20% travel (mostly out-of-state, overnight travel).  Please see the duties below for a better understanding of the requirements of the position.

 

Sample Duties

 

Technical Documentation & Review (Approximately 40-45% of time spent):

  • Document project steps from large scale consulting initiatives.
  • Create technical reports documenting promotional test development efforts, using content validation strategies.  Create technical documentation in support of entry-level examinations using content, construct and criterion validation strategies.
  • Create technical reports documenting job analysis efforts conducted in support of the firm’s test development projects. 
  • Proof consulting deliverables, including assessment exercises, study guide, assessment center administration documents, technical reports, etc. 

Data Analysis (Approximately 15-20%):

  • Evaluate job-task analysis information and task-linkage analysis information using Excel, SPSS and other related programs. 
  • Create job-task analysis reports for various positions.
  • Enter data from SME item review meetings (including Angoff, CVR, linkage data, etc.), analyze data and produce summary reports.
  • Create SPSS code to score written examination; score written examinations and conduct various analyses to support such examinations. 
  • Hand-enter assessment center ratings, proof data and score assessments. 

Assistance with Consulting Deliverables, on-site (Approximately 20%):

  • Conduct on-site item review meetings for written examinations.
  • Administer written examinations at client sites and conduct test-review and appeal sessions; assist with the administration of large scale examinations.
  • Travel with consultants and assist with on-site assessment center coordination and activities.
  • Conduct job analysis interview via phone and at client site.

 

Misc. Duties (Approximately 15-20%):

  • Assist in the preparation of materials for assessment centers.
  • Prepare materials for item review meetings, job analyses, job-task analyses, etc.
  • Prepare materials for large scale written examinations
  • Prepare feedback reports after an assessment center for all candidates. 

 

 

Position Requirements

  • A master’s degree in I/O Psychology or a related field is required, OR a bachelor’s degree and substantial experience working in talent assessment/selection.
  • Strong knowledge of selection and assessment, including employment testing, legal issues related to selection, a thorough understanding of Title VII and the EEOC’s Uniform Guidelines and technical knowledge of validation strategies.
  • A moderately strong statistics background is needed.
  • Excellent written communication skills and analytical ability are needed to develop technical documentation, assessment exercises, supporting assessment documents, etc.
  • Practical knowledge and experience with SPSS and Excel are needed.
  • An ability and willingness to travel is required.  This includes 15-20% out-of-state travel in conjunction with various projects. This travel is based on the client’s needs and desires.

  • Strong skills related to Microsoft Office products (i.e., Excel, etc.)
